If you have not noticed already I have my new homepage layout finished. The layout is a semi-magazine style with a few other customizations. For those not familiar with Thesis the theme I run my blog on, it comes as a blank slate to allow you all the freedom you want to get a truly custom design. They have pre-made skins that others have created within Thesis available for purchase but really, where is the fun in that.
I spent a lot of time in the Thesis support forums figuring out the best way to get things coded because PHP is not my strong suit. But in a nut shell, I created three separate divs and instead of putting teasers in the “Recent Blog Post” column I set each post to display the newest from that particular category. So whenever I make a post and label within a particular category it will update on the appropriate section in the “Recent Blog Post” area.
It felt good once I put the finished product up because although I spent a lot of time within the support forums looking for answers, I really did not apply much of what I found there. I took the time to figure it out on my own and that made the level of satisfaction even greater! There are still a few kinks that I have to work out that have to do with it loading properly in every browser (and oddly internet explorer is NOT the culprit this time) but those should be worked out within a few days.
