Today I was explaining some of my SEO practices to a member of a forum I frequent. I figured it would be beneficial to go over my practices here as well. My experience is with SEO for blogs because that is what I work with. Blogs in their nature are more SEO friendly to begin with because they are normally updated with fresh content more often than standard webpages. More content means more opportunities to get listed in the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages).

You need to do keyword research when looking for tagging ideas. I normally use Google Adwords Keyword Tool, Google Insights, and Wordtracker Labs Keyword Questions. These tools help me determine how much competition there is for a particular keyword which is important because the more competition means the less chance you have for ranking highly for that keyword.

Also you should try and focus on long tail keywords. When people go to Google, they rarely type in “bikes”. Instead they will type in “where to find bikes” or “how to ride bikes”. You have to think as the person that will perform the search and what type of information they would be looking for in relation to that product or service.

Using the keyword in the title of your post/page is also important for good SEO purposes as well as optimizing title tags, meta tags, and body text. If you have any questions ask and I will do my best to answer them.
