In a world where all traffic counts, it makes since that you need to get as much diverse traffic coming to your site as possible. Today I want to show you a little trick that will not drive boatloads of traffic but will increase traffic from day to day.

What I want to tell you about is leveraging trackbacks. Now if you already do this then great, keep doing what you do. But if not this will help you take advantage of popular sites traffic all for free. Here is how the process works.

I am going to use the example that I tend to do but it will work with any popular wordpress site. Let’s say you have a mobile phone blog and you need a new post for the day. You visit some reputable sites like Gizmodo or PPCGeeks to see what is new in the world. After a bit of reading you find an article that you want to make a post about.

You then proceed to your site and write up the article. After the article is finished be sure to link back to the original article somewhere inside your post. Now BEFORE you make the post live, you need to scroll down a bit in your admin panel and look for the area that says “Send Trackbacks”. For those unfamiliar with trackbacks

“Trackbacks are a way to notify legacy blog systems that you’ve linked to them. If you link other WordPress blogs they’ll be notified automatically using pingbacks, no other action necessary.”

Copy and paste the original article “the one from PPCGeeks” into this field then you can go ahead and make your post live.

Now what the trackback will do is inside the original article, it will post a small link to your article usually directly below the article or below the comments. You want to try and do this for a post that gets many comments because many readers from that site usually tend to click that link simply out of curiosity. The more compelling your title is the better because if it is very similar to the original article they tend not to click as much.

That is it! You have found your new article for your site and in turn took advantage of the sites traffic simply by linking back to them to give credit for the information. It is a win/win for both parties involved because the original site will have one more site than before linking to them and you will have some decent traffic coming from you trackback. Depending on the article will depend on how many clicks you can expect to get. Try and it and see for yourself.
