Take a moment and think about why your readers visit your site. Really, think about it! Is it your personality? Is it your design? Is it they like you’re writing style? Now granted those things I mention probably play some part but the true reason your readers are in fact YOUR readers and not anybody else’s is because you provide some sort of value to them with your site.
Now as bloggers trying to make money online, we are taught to start a site and put ads and affiliate links up to generate income. This is true but it is only half the equation. For why should we expect people to click our ads or buy our products (giving us value in the form of income) when we are not providing anything in return. What you need to do is provide the value you first with no hopes of anything in return. You must genuinely want to help your reader, which is the key. After that the money will start rolling in on its own.
I myself made this mistake too. I wanted to receive income first, provide value later. I was not putting my full effort into helping my readers and that was where I went wrong. So here are a few things for you to think about whenever you create a new blog post.
- How will this benefit my reader?
- Is this information providing value to them or me?
- Is the content of this post unique or can it be found elsewhere?
- How clear is the information provided?
- Can it be acted upon after reading?
Taking these steps I listed above will greatly increase the value you provide to your reader and in turn grow your community. Are you providing value?
