Yesterday was the day I was featured on Ruben Ricarts website Frusketing.com for their “Trucker Hat Tuesday” event. For those who may be new here, people/business/bloggers all send in trucker hats to Ruben with a webpage link and personalized logo on them (usually business logo). Ruben after receiving them then goes out and wears each hat around New York City to advertise your hat around the city for FREE.

Everybody is eligible to take part in this as long as they contact Ruben for more information. The trucker hats cost no more than 20 dollars (I think it may be cheaper but not sure) and it is a great way to advertise to a New York audience. Now that I have given some background for people new here I can talk about the effect it had on my site.

Not too long after Ruben posted his blog I started noticing my traffic to steadily go up. It was nothing crazy but it did grow. I woke up this morning and checked my traffic from the previous day and it turns out half of my total traffic came after Rubens post went up. Looks like it is paying off already! My traffic for today is also higher than normal. By noon I already passed yesterday’s mark at the same time and that was without any new content put up yet.

It is great to take advantage of events like this when you come across them. What I have noticed is everybody out here is ultimately after the same goal. The great thing is that most of the people online trying to make it are trying to be as original/creative as possible. This results in a lot of great opportunities for whoever finds them. Most bloggers like me put a lot of effort into their projects and do their best to get a return customer and referral.

So after it is all said and done, we have hundreds of great and useful events online that minimal exposure. Just because a blogger may not have 12,000 RSS subscribers does not meant his material could not be used by 12,000 people. Just a little food for thought.

A Great Read for Social Media Enthusiast

One thing internet marketers understand is that a mastery of social media is a must to be successful. Sometime back I overheard/read somewhere online about a book that analyzes the work of a very influential internet marketer. They said this man rose vast amounts of money in VERY short periods of time by monetizing and maintaining his online community. He is the things legends are made of and this book details his methods.

Also something of interest I would like to point out before I mention what the book is. While on Twitter (@bookerx3) the other day, I sent out a tweet that said “Halfway through the book “Insert Book Name Here”. So far so good”. That was it, and I did not think much of it. Yet, today I wake up with a new follower on twitter. And you will never guess who it was, the author of the book (or at least somebody affiliated with it). They also @replied me and said “Thanks for picking up the book. Hope you like the 2nd half as much as the first!”

Now I was just shocked that they found me, added me as a friend, and then took the time to reach out and send one of their customers a message. That is the best customer service I have seen in a long time. Just shows the impact twitter can have on a business and its customers. But for those of you all wondering, the book in question is “Barack, Inc. Winning Business Lessons of the Obama Campaign” (Check out @barackinc on twitter).

This is not your average presidential book, it focuses on his campaign and how they used social media networks such as: twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. to build and expand his base. Obama actually hired one of the co-founders of Facebook to develop his My.Barack.Obama website. It is a great look at how to use social media to generate buzz and income.

It is written by Barry Libert (chairmen) and Rick Faulk is CEO of Mzinga. Mzinga is a provider of social software solutions that help major corporations around the world create online communities for marketing, customer support, and learning. I do not plan on telling you a lot about the book because this is just a recommendation I wanted to make. I hope that at least some of you would take your time to read if you find it interesting. I paid 19.99 for it but I think you may be able to find it online for about 14.00.

Below is a link (Amazon) to where the book can be purchased if anybody wants. Just so you all know, this is not a sponsored review. I genuinely like this book and feel the message it has should be checked out by any internet marketer. The internet is built on sharing of knowledge, so that is what I am trying to do.
